Code of ethics for national organization for human services

Assignment task:

Professor Lesyk used to oversee a local county-wide family violence program. One client was a 30-year-old woman who requested help with her abusive husband. According to the client, her husband drinks alcohol heavily, and usually when he does, he becomes violent. Even when he is not violent, he is emotionally and verbally abusive.

The client has now stayed at Professor Lesyk's agency emergency shelter three times, and each time, the client has returned to the husband. The client also has a history of a childhood brain injury. Her medical diagnosis is that she has "mild" cognitive impairment.

In this current situation, the client has requested shelter again. The agency provides counseling and other services to help clients live independently. However, after a few days in the shelter, the client tells Professor Lesyk that she had spoken to her husband, and that he promised not to hurt her again. The client said "I think he really means it this time. He was crying and begging me to come back, and I want to give him another chance."

Professor Lesyk was concerned and felt that the client was still at risk and would likely be harmed again by her husband.

Now put yourself in Professor Lesyk's shoes. Decide what you can and should do, using the 8- step model and the relevant standards of the Code of Ethics for the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) to consider the situation with and make a feasible solution.
