Assignment:
Project: Client System Role Play Reflection and Analysis Paper
After planning the script and videotaping the role play, how did it feel to walk in the shoes of a social worker? What insights did you gain from the experience? What aspects of this experience were challenging for you? Being able to recognize the areas where you were successful and the areas where you need improvement are what make role plays an important part of your social work education.
For the written segment of your Final Project, reflect on your experience in developing this role play video. Consider any insights you gained from the experience, as well as the challenges you might have experienced in its planning and execution. Think about the specific techniques you used and why you used them. Finally, review the videos your colleagues posted. Select one of those videos and consider any areas in which your colleague might improve his or her approach and why.
Your written assignment should include:
1. A reflection on your experience in doing this role play video.
2. An explanation of any insights you gained from the experience.
3. An explanation of the challenges you experienced in planning and executing the role-play.
Focus on insights and challenges related to demonstrating skills and engaging as a professional social worker, not on technical aspects of role-playing or recording the scene.
4. An explanation of the specific engagement techniques you used and analysis of why you used them.
In the course of an interview, social workers make spontaneous, deliberate, and conscious decisions about what to do or say next, based upon the client's statements and non-verbal cues (column 1 and column 2 of transcript).
Reflect on what both parties are experiencing and whether that is consistent or contrary to what they are actually saying. Explain how skills used during the Engagement stage addressed both verbal and non-behavior communication.
5. A brief description of the colleague's role-play video you selected.
6. A critique of what your colleague did well in the video you selected and an explanation of areas in which your colleague might improve their approach and why.

5. Joey's client role-play video was about a female and her son who is suffering a domestic violence situation. Stephanie Taylor is the name of the victim. She is originally from Alabama and served in the US Army, She moved to Baltimore and her husband lost his job in the post office and started staying out late. When she confronted him he started getting violent. He controlled all the money. She is scared of this situation. He also treated her with taking her son away and never let her see him. She does not have any family near to tur to get help, they are living in shelters (her and her son). She wants to get a new start without her husband.
Joey the social worker is offering help with some of the VA programs such as Training for a new job opportunity and housing true the HUD program for veterans. She is willing to get the programs the social worker offers her.
6.I really like his video he did everything as I would of done. But the cameras focus was side ways, to watch the video you had to turn the computer side way to see the video.
Joey demos traded excellent Social Work Competence
Criteria that define competence in social work.
Competence in the field of social work is demonstrated by knowledge, experience, values, and skills. Six primary competencies can be used to demonstrate the effectiveness of social work. These include; meeting practice requirements, meeting all social work values, acquiring applied knowledge, transferring knowledge and skills (Singer, 2011). Social workers are concerned about their competence and are driven by the need for assistance which is created by a disaster in the society.
Excellent video Joey, keep up the good work. The only thing I would of done different to improve his video would have been, the direction the camera was the direction the camera was pointed to watch the video you have to turn the screen side way. His camera was side way to record the video.

This is what the professor said about the video: RE: Role Play Video
COLLAPSE
HI Joey
I really enjoyed your role play video. I appreciate that you did the following:
1. Started the meeting by introducing yourself and stating your role
2. Attempted to begin building a rapport by connecting with her around your shared military experience.
3. Explaining to her the limits of confidentiality-this is vital, very good. The only thing I would add, is that the limits to confidentiality is not just around safety issues regarding the client and her son, but Tarasoff law requires that we have a duty to warn if anyone is in danger.
4. I am not sure, but it sounded like this client was in a domestic violent relationship and that she is afraid, is that correct Joey? If so, I did not see a safety plan developed or a discussion about how this client and her child can be safe in this situation. This is vital. I saw you offered her resources regarding housing programs, but a safety assessment should be done in the moment that a client states she is a risk for harm or she is being harmed in some way. Then a safety plan should be developed between the social worker and client as to how she can get to a safe place. Some clients may not want to leave their current situation regardless of the risk. If they are mentally competent and understand the risks and decided to go back into the situation, then that is their right to self determination and we cannot interfere. But if the child is at risk, the parent has a duty to protect and if she is not, Child Protection should be contacted and informed of the danger the child is in so they can investigate and intervene if needed.
