Class, one of the controversial provisions of Williams decision was the notion that one of the major life functions must be impaired. This leads to follow up questions of whether or not medical interventions (eye glasses for the visually impaired or medications for certain diseases), as interpreted by the Toyota Motors decision, takes persons out of the category of those covered and protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
If so, should it be legal to deny employment opportunities to those with conditions that have been successfully treated and/or controlled on the grounds that no current impairment of major life functions exists?
