Class Number Arrangement
Unlike the Cities Numbers of Dewey Decimal Classification the Colon Class Numbers have not only Arabic Numerals but also capital letters of the Roman alphabet and also punctuation marks and other symbols. So, arrangement of entries according to class numbers in the classified part will be difficult unless the order of precedence is given for the various digits. Ranganathan suggested the order of precedence for these digits.
The Seventh Edition (1987) of Colon Classification provides the following ascending value of digits.
