Chlorine gas (Cl2) is bubbled into an absorption column containing hot sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution in order to produce sodium chlorate (NaClO3) according to the following chemical equation:
6NaOH + 3Cl2 = 5NaCl + NaClO3 + 3H2O
If the molarity of sodium hydroxide solution used was 6M and the available volume of the solution was 0.5 m3, calculate:
A) The mass of sodium chlorate, and sodium chloride produced.
B) The volume of the chlorine gas used if the gas conditions were measured to be Pressure = 3 atm and temperature = 50 oC
