Certain yeast can degrade glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide in a process called alcoholic fermentation according to the equation:
C6H12O6(s)® 2 C2H5OH(l) + 2 CO2(g)
- Calculate the enthalpy of reaction using the values in Appendix 2 of the text (assume the glucose is D-glucose).
- Calculate the work done at constant pressure of 1.00 bar and T = 298 K per mole of glucose fermented. Assume the carbon dioxide behaves ideally.
