Cellular Respiration:
General Formula
For aerobic respiration (in the presence of O2)
 C6H12O6 + 6O2 --> 6H2O + 6CO2 + 36ATP (theoretical)
                                                                   30ATP (actual)

 Glycolysis = 2 ATPnet + 2 FADH2 (4 ATP actual = 3) è 6 ATP actual = 5
 Pyruvate Oxidation = 2 NADH (6 ATP actual = 5) è 6 ATP actual = 5
 Kreb's Cycle = 2 ATP + 6 NADH (18 ATP actual = 15) + 2 FADH2 (4 ATP actual = 3) è 24 ATP actual = 20
Mitochondria
- A sausage shaped organelle in eukaryotic cells and is membrane bound
- Last 3 steps of cell. resp. take place here
- Inner membrane -> highly folded -> cristae
- Fluid filled interior -> matrix
- Have their own DNA (mtDNA) and own RNA and ribosomes
- Only organelle (along with chloroplast) that can replicate itself

- Were once a separate organism but entered symbiotic relationship with a present eukaryotic cell
