Topic: One miltary conflict in American history
Description:
Write an essay analyzing the books, journal articles, and primary sources you read. In your (brief) introduction, include a thesis statement that will tie your essay together. Spend some time (about a page) explaining the basic facts and narrative of the military conflict you chose, but use the majority of your essay (about half a page per source) to discuss how your sources reveal different ideas and interpretations. What is the main point of each source, and how does it contribute to your view of the conflict? In a (brief) conclusion, discuss the major similarities and differences you noticed between the sources and explain your own interpretation of the conflict based on your research. Throughout the essay, demonstrate how your sources illustrate different perspectives and nuances in how history is understood. You can choose a selection from the Pentagon Papers and/or Dear America to cover your primary documents for this assignment.
