Carbon an essential constituent of all organic compounds
The word organic means to organs of both plants and animals and organic chemistry is the study of the products which originate from plants and animals or living source.
A detailed investigation of the structure of the organic compounds revealed that almost all of them contain both carbon and hydrogen and a few other elements also.
Hence we can say that organic chemistry are the hydrocarbons and their derivatives and the branch of chemistry that deals with the study of these compounds is known as hydrocarbons.
