Problem
In healthcare, we abide by a set of professional rules as well as the policies and procedures in the workplace. These rules, policies, and procedures can be based on laws, but they can also be based on ethical standards. Unethical behaviors can sometimes differ from what is illegal. For example, as a nurse working in home care, there were times when patients offered me tips for services. I did not take these tips because it was the policy of my company that staff were not allowed to take tips, as well it would have been unethical. In this instance, it was not illegal to take tips but would have been unethical. Can you think of some situations that you may be faced with as an MOA that may be unethical but not illegal?
