Can one separate violence in cinema from violence in real

Assignment Task: Feature Film: Pulp Fiction

Can one separate violence in cinema from violence in the real-world? Do you believe it has any influence on the tolerance for violence in the real-world? Does it have any potential to desensitize viewers to violent acts? Cite an example from the film where it adds to the narrative's authenticity or would have worked without the violence.

Tarantino uses the music in the club a 60's Chuck Berry tune called You Never Can Tell and ends that scene with a Fade to Black and then Fade Up to both characters coming back into the Mia's house. Just silence and natural sound. Until they speak and call for music. This time the song is covered by Urge Overkill, and titled Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon. He's using these sounds not as background music - his characters hear the same songs. But why would Tarantino pick these two songs to move between both scenes?
