Problem
Don and Betty had been dating for 5 years living in Greenville, SC. They decide to move to Columbia. Betty was not sure how the neighbors would react to them living together. Immediately after arriving in Columbia, both expressed their intent to be married to each other and they begin telling their new neighbors and co-workers they were married. After a year of living in Columbia, SC, Don decided to leave Betty and moved back to Greenville. Betty wants a divorce and support from Don.
1) Can Betty get a "divorce" from Don since she never obtained a marriage license or had a marriage ceremony performed? Why?
2) If Betty can file for divorce in Family Court, could she file her Complaint in Columbia or would she have to go to Greenville to get divorced?
