Calculation of empirical formula
The steps included in the calculation are as follows,
(a) Divide the percentage (%) of each element by its atomic volume. This gives the atoms' relative number.
(b) Divide the figures acquired in step
(i) by using the lowest one. This provides the simplest ratio of the various elements present.
(c) If the simplest ratio acquired in step
(ii) is not a whole number ratio, after that multiply each the figures along with an appropriate number that is, 2, 3, etc. to make it simple most whole number ratio.
(d) Write down the symbols of the several elements side by side with the above numbers at the lower right corner of every one. This gives the empirical or the simplest formula.
