Calculating the overtime pay


Response to the following problem:

Mack Banta, a nonexempt account representative, worked extra hours this week as a call operator (two seperate positions). A number of operatiors were out for the week and Banta was asked to pick up some extra hours. Can the company pay Mr. Banta at a lower pay rate for the hours he worked as the "fill-in" call operator? These hours pushed Mr. Banta work time over 40 hours. How should the company calculate Banta's overtime pay? Under what situations could the company not pay Mr. Banta for additional work performed. Give at least one example.
