(b) Your organization wishes to renovate its construction equipment by replacing used parts. An experienced mechanic was hired to do the repair and parts replacement jobs. The mechanic has submitted the following information:
• If the parts are relatively simple and the easy to replace, the exercise will take 50 hours.
• If something goes wrong that would require additional works, he expects the exercise to take probably 60 hours.
• If he runs into unforeseen problems, with unavailable parts whereby replacement parts will have to be manufactured at the metal workshop, it will take closer to 130 hours.
• if the mechanic charges Rs 100 per hour, what is the expected cost?
Question 3)(a) Aruba Company intends to develop a new product: either a Baby Shampoo or a Sun Lotion. The market for each product is known if the products can be successfully developed. However, there is some chance that it will not be possible to successfully develop them. Revenue of MUR 1,000,000 would be realized from selling the Baby Shampoo and revenue of MUR 400,000 would be realized from selling the Sun Lotion. Both of these amounts are net of production cost but do not include development cost. If development is unsuccessful for a product, then there will be no sales, and the development cost will be totally lost. Development cost would be MUR 100,000 for the Baby Shampoo and MUR 10,000 for the Sun Lotion.
(i) Using a decision tree, show the different alternatives and outcomes.
(ii) If the probability of having successful development of the Baby Shampoo is 0.5 and that of the Sun Lotion is 0.8, using Expected Monetary Value, determine the best alternative.
(b) Explain what are the possible strategies which can be adopted when planning risk responses for a Positive Risk?
