The kinetic model of gases assumes the average nearest distances between 2 molecule in the gas is much greater than the size of the individual molecules making up the gas.
Consider 1 mole gas composed of Ne atomes at SATP conditoins. Assume Ne behaves as perfect gas
1) Calculate the volume occupied by one Ne atom?
2) then estimate the average nearest distance between 2 Ne atomes by taking it as the length of one of the sides of a cumbe with a volume containing one Ne atoms?
3) Use the above data to estimate the density for (a) Ne(g) at SATP, and (b) Ne(s) at a temperature where Ne forms a solid? note the Ne(s) density is greater than the Ne(g) density
