Calculate the pressure drop for water at 100f and 1 atm

Question: 1. Calculate the pressure drop for water at 100°F and 1 atm flowing at 500 lbh through a bed of 1/2-in. spheres. The bed is 4 in. in diameter and 8 in. high. The porosity (void fraction) of the bed is 0.38. Assume gravity is negligible.

2. A 12-in. circular duct in which a gas witb p = 0.001 lbm ft3 and p = 0.1 CP is flowing is shown below. A pitot tube attached to a differential manometer is inserted in the duct as shown. Flow is laminar, and the pitot tube coefficient may be taken as 1.0.

a. Calculate the velocity (if any) in ft/s using the pitot tube equation. If no flow is present, explain.

b. Calculate the mass flow rate in lbds if possible - if not, explain why in detail.
