Personal Expenses
Calculate personal expenses for one year. Use internet sources, catalogues, or flyers to estimate accurate Canadian costs. You may choose to visit nearby stores. Record your information on the Personal Expenses tab of the Budget Worksheet. Total the yearly cost then divide by 12 in order to determine the monthly cost that you will enter into the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet. File the personal expenses in your electronic portfolio.
Eating Out Expenses
Estimate how many times your character will eat out in a month. Consider one or more options: restaurants, fast food outlets, coffee shops, street vendors, etc. Estimate an average cost for each time out so that you can budget for this expense. File the calculation of the Eating Out expense to your electronic portfolio. Transfer this expense to the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet.
Baby Expenses
Calculate baby expenses for one year. Use internet sources, catalogues, or flyers to estimate accurate Canadian costs. You may choose to visit nearby stores. Record your information on the Baby Expenses tab of the Budget Worksheet. Total the yearly cost then divide by 12 in order to determine the monthly cost that you will enter into the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet. File the baby expenses worksheet in your electronic portfolio.
Household Supplies, Staple Food and Groceries
1. To stock the pantry of your character, use the Staple Foods List you created in Unit 4 Activity 2 Assignment 1 and the cost calculations. Divide the total by 12 to calculate a monthly cost for these items. File the Staple Food calculations in your electronic portfolio. Transfer this expense to the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet.
2. Calculate the Monthly Cost of Groceries by using the Nutritious Food Basket tool. Transfer this expense to the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet.
3. Use the Household Supplies and Equipment List you developed from the Discussion in Unit 4 Activity 3 or create a new list of 10 - 15 of supplies and/or equipment you will need. Find the cost of each item - create spreadsheet or other graphic organizer to record your information. File the graphic organizer in your electronic portfolio. Transfer the total to the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet
Utilities, Insurance and Laundry Expenses
Use the Nightsville Promotional Flyer to determine the costs applicable to your character's needs. Transfer these expenses to the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet..
Leisure Activities Expenses
Leisure activities vary in both nature and cost. Getaway vacations are usually a once-in a year event, while yoga classes are a weekly occurrence. Daily strolls are a leisurely break for some, while a Netflix movie works for others. The expense of leisure activities should be included in a budget. Select:
- one or two (1-2) yearly leisure activities,
- one or two (1-2) monthly activities,
- one or two (1-2) weekly activities, and
- one or two (1-2) daily leisure activities.
Calculate the cost for each and add them to arrive at a Leisure Activity Total. Divide the total by 12 to determine your monthly cost. Use a graphic organizer to record your information. File the graphic organizer in your electronic portfolio. Transfer the expense to the Bank Account Record of your character's Budget Worksheet.
