Calculate the mass of oxygen and decomposed potassium chlorate along with the pressure in the glass bulb.
Oxygen can be produced in the laboratory by the thermal decomposition of potassium chlorate:
KC1O3 (c) → KC1(s) + 3/2 O2 (g)
Some potassium chlorate is decomposed and the Oxygen produced is collected over water at 250C and 780 torr total pressure. A total of 510 mL of gas is collected.
1. Resolve the mass of oxygen Collected.
2. Calculate the mass of KC1O3 which was decomposed.
3. The Oxygen collected in this experiment is dried thoroughly to remove all traces of water vapour and stored in a 300. mL glass bulb at 550C. Calculate the pressure inside the bulb.
