It is desired to prepare an emulsion in a baffled (4 in number) tank using standard flat-blade disc turbine. The tank is 0.61 m in diameter and height of liquid is that of tank diameter. The turbine rotates at 275 rpm. The density and viscosity of resultant liquid may be taken as 909 kg m-3 and 20 cP respectively. Calculate (a) power required for mixing and (b) if the system is scaled-up for mixing volume of syrup 100 times to that of the small tank as above keeping the mass transfer rate equal for each.
