bull consider your own clinical practice setting

• Consider your own clinical practice setting and clearly identify a key practice issue or problem that could be improved using appropriate evidence (research) to support the change.

• Your plan must include discussion of the following key areas:

1. Clinical problem: Provide a clear description of the clinical problem and why it is a problem in your practice area.

2. Research Approach: Identify the most appropriate type of research approach (ie. qualitative or quantitative) for this problem and provide a clear rationale for your choice based on the principles of research. This is a core concept in this assignment and you must demonstrate your understanding of the research approach you have chosen.

3. Aim of study: Identify and discuss the main aim of the study and what you hope to achieve with the study.

4. Importance to practice: Describe and discuss the importance of this study and how it would improve patient care in your clinical practice area.

5. Participation: Outline how you as an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse would be able to participate and contribute to the study process.

6. Literature review: This is a very important section. Summarise the key issues from the current professional literature (using nursing journals) about the current information about your chosen clinical problem.

7. Population and Sample: Clearly identify what or who would be sampled to gather the information (data), how you will gather the sample (type of sampling technique),  why you would choose this as the population and sample group (critique the principles of this section).

8. Inclusion and exclusion criteria: Identify who or what will be included and who or what will be excluded and provide a clear rationale for your choices. This is part of the sampling process.

9. Data Collection: identify the most appropriate method to gather the information for the study eg. interviews, reviewing patient charts or documents, surveys identify the number of times the event occurs etc, and provide a rationale why you think this would be the most appropriate method in relation to the chosen research approach (quantitative or qualitative).

10. Setting: Indicate where you think the study would take place for example in the clinical setting such as the ward, in the clinical laboratory, in the community, in the patient's home. Critique any problems that might be created in these settings and how these issues could be minimised or reduced.

11. Data Storage: Indicate how you would store the information/data safely according to the National Health and Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) standards.

12. Ethical considerations: Discuss the key ethical considerations when conducting clinical research or studies in the workplace and if there are any specific considerations for the research problem you have chosen. This is a very important section of the assignment. Consider who you might include in your study and how the principles of ethical research apply to this group. Consider any vulnerable groups and how their best interests will be protected.

13. Referencing: This clinical practice research plan must be written using academic format with appropriate references from current professional literature. You must attach a reference list to the assignment and reference throughout the assignment using the American Psychological Association (APA) referencing. You are required to have a minimum of 5-8 references for this assessment piece.
