We would like to think that the movies every generation watches do say something about that generation. Granted that the state of technology at that time will impose some limits as to what can be put on the screen, but certainly where people put their money has to do something with the "wants" and values of that generation. At present, the most money-making movies out there have to do with adventure and violence. Somewhere close to that we find movie producers concentrating on broken relationships, ex-this or ex-that, infidelity, and anti-establishment movies.
If you were from another world looking at the bulk of movies being produced today and the movies where people are putting most of their money on, what conclusions would you reach about our society?
