This assessment assesses the student ability to develop and implement a project quality plan
Instructions:
Answer the following questions with respect to a medium sized building.
TASK ONE:
QUESTIONS:
(a) Define the meaning of ‘quality' when applied to the construction industry.
(b) What is the difference between ‘quality assurance' and ‘quality control'.
(c) To achieve the required quality benchmark, list three elements which require consideration.
(d) List five stages necessary when planning for quality.
(e) Outline the costs allied with putting into effect a ‘quality control' system.
(f) Define the term ‘stagegate' and provide an example of its inclusion in a quality control system.
(g) What two factors can be attributed to a compromise in ‘quality'. Provide two examples for each factor.
TASK TWO: WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE AND STAGEGATE CONTROLS
Instructions:
Using the project scenario, Waimapu Place Commercial development. Refer to the set of drawings and the specification supplied in moodle.
Identify the ground floor timber fire-fated wall (FRR 90/90/90), between units 4 and 5, located along grid G extending from grids 6 to 7.
Create a work breakdown structure or flowchart showing the sequential construction of the timber fire-rated wall, framing to paint finish.
Include notation at each stage. Incorporate control and identification systems of all items which need to be completed prior to continuing onto the next stage of construction. Identify all parties involved in the process with ‘sign-off' authority. List all relevant supporting documents that confirm compliance.
TASK THREE: CREATE A TRADE CONTROL SHEET
Instructions:
Using the project scenario, Warehouse and Office building, Hynds Road, Greerton. Refer to drawings 3 ( Floor plan), 8 (Wall sections), A13 (Wall elevations) and 15 (Toilet plans) and the specification supplied in moodle. You may have to research manufacturers data through their respective websites.
Create a trade control sheet that encompasses all trades involved in the construction of the Disabled access toilets from framing to completion. Itemise each individual trade (i.e) Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Tiling. Include references to items that are ‘critical success factors' (e.g) fittings, special fixings, openings etc that must comply with NZS 4121: 2001. Brief notation is only required (i.e) Hardiglaze installation (include method of fixing and any special requirements included in the specification or manufacturers data). There are examples of trade control sheets on moodle that could be used as a template. List all relevant supporting documents. List all mandatory inspections to be carried out by the Territorial Authority. Allow provision for those with ‘sign off' authority.
