Problem

Content and Organization of an Evaluation Essay

A. Introduce the Topic

a. The first paragraph should introduce the topic to your reader. It includes mostly general information, or interesting information - like an engaging personal story- that you will not need to use later as evidence in your body paragraphs.

b. The last sentence of your introduction paragraph should include a thesis.

B. Several body paragraphs that support and give evidence to "prove" your thesis/main idea.

a. Each body paragraph should focus on one idea. Each body paragraph should have several types of evidence, such as quotes and paraphrases from outside sources, personal or anecdotal evidence, logical arguments ("if..., then..."), and facts.

C. Conclude your essay

a. Your conclusion paragraph(s) may repeat your claim and very briefly summarize the reasons for your claim. These paragraphs should not introduce new evidence, but they may leave the reader with questions or ideas to consider, based on the information you gave them.
