Briefly describe the social movement


Question 1: Pick a social movement to discuss. You may refer to one of the social movements listed in our text or you may find a peer-reviewed journal article that adequately describes a social movement. 

A) Briefly describe the social movement in your own words.

B) What type of movement is/was it (revolutionary/reform, instrumental/expressive)?  Explain your answer.

C) Apply one microsocial or macrostructrual explanation of social movements to your chosen movement.  How does this explanation account for the origins of this social movement?

D) Completely Optional: Using Smelser's "types of responses by the authorities to social movements," explain the outcomes of this social movement.

Question 2: Our focus this week is on domestic violence and the effect on children and families. Patrick Stewart talks about his childhood experiences. (Amnesty International UK, 2009). The transcript of the video is attached below.

Question 3: Discuss the factors that influence childhood obesity. In your discussion, be sure to address the adjustments/shifts needed in order to remedy childhood obesity. Be sure to explore notions of food quality, quantity, access, and other lifestyle factors that shape this condition.

Question 4: For this discussion, go beyond your own experiences and search the internet to find an example of a foodborne illness outbreak or contaminated food products that have crossed international borders to affect people in countries outside the country of origin.

Post a link to the article and summarize the incident. Then, explain what you believe would have prevented this incident from occurring, be sure to provide logical reasoning and sound resources that back up your conclusions. What steps can countries take to reduce the risk of contaminated or unsafe food products from crossing the borders and potentially causing an international incident?

Question 6: Please define ambush marketing and provide an example of a company or any entity that used ambush marketing in sports.  Try to find unique examples. Do you feel that the ambush marketing in your example was successful? Why or why not? Please do your best to locate a brief sample video clip or photo illustrating your ambush marketing example.

Also, how might the legitimate sponsor prevent ambush marketing? Finally, since the topic this week is legal aspects of sport marketing, what are the legal issues related to ambush marketing, and what would a marketer have to do in order to break the law while ambushing?

Question 7: How did African Americans respond to the end of slavery and the realities of freedom? How did southern whites respond to the loss of their slaves and the slave-based economy?

Question 8: Explain how climate change is expected to affect an environmental issue of your choosing. Use the resources below or other credible sources for your research. For example, the NASA page has insights into the future of water, air, and land resources. There is also a NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) site where you can research changes expected in every community (including yours!). There are more at the bottom of the page. Be sure to keep the references you use and include the links at the end of your post.

1. Do you think employers should use integrity and personality assessments to make recruiting and promotion decisions? Support your reasoning based on current research.

2. Can you think of certain positions or job categories where integrity and personality assessments are more relevant than others? Provide specific examples and explain your rationale.

3. Do you think government agencies and companies in the private sector will use more or less integrity and personality testing in the future? Why? Why not?

Question 13: The Critical Path: Why is it important to identify the critical path before starting a project? On what kind of projects would the critical path be irrelevant?

Question 14: American jazz served as the foundation for rock and roll music. American jazz is explored in the Discussion this week.

Select one jazz composer that is not covered in the course text. (These are some in the text:  Scott Joplin, Sippie Wallace, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Louis Armstrong, and Jelly Roll Morton.) Write the post from the perspective of the chosen composer. Discuss the style of his or her music. Explain how this composer influenced the development of jazz.  Also show how his or her contributions have impacted popular American music.

Write from the composer's perspective--using first person voice. Do not just include a biography of the composer. The focus is to be on the style of music, contributions to the evolution of jazz music, and the impact this composer's music has had on popular American music. Include a YouTube link featuring a performance of the composer's music. Write in your own words. Cite all sources/provide links to your source

Question 15: Based on research, make the argument that hacking is an ethical response to cyber attacks. Consider both state and non-state actors and different situations.

Question 16: Merton identified five forms of adaptation; describe each one. For each of these, identify the culturally defined goals/ends and structurally defined means. Provide an example scenario using each of the five adaptations, goals/ends, and means.
