Case Study
Giuseppina is an 83 year old Italian lady and has been living at Rose Grove Aged Care (where you are currently employed) for the past six months. Giuseppina has a diagnosis of Anxiety, Insomnia, Bipolar, Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis. Prior to her admission to Rose Grove, Giuseppina was living with her daughter Adelina, who is a single mum to three teenage children.
At the time of her mother's stay Adelina was struggling to care for her children as well as her mother. Giuseppina was having regular mood swings and at times she was becoming angry, irritable, and aggressive at Adelina and her children. For these reasons Adelina decided that it would be best for Giuseppina to be admitted to Rose Grove where she would receive the care she needed.
This morning when you arrive on shift you receive handover from the night RN who informs you Giuseppina was extremely teary overnight. The RN said that Guiseppina had said... "Adelina doesn't care about me; she just dumped me here so she doesn't have to see me. I looked after her when she was a baby and she won't look after me now I am old. I have nothing to live for".
After handover you go straight to check on Giuseppina, she is lying on her bed crying and clenching at her rosary beads and refuses to talk to you when you ask her if she is alright.
