- Identify the functions of the female reproductive system
- Identify the functions of the male reproductive system
- Define oogenesis
- Gain an understanding of the menstrual cycle
- Gain an awareness of the mammary gland and its structure composition
- Gain awareness of contraception, its use and the type available for use.
- Gain an insight to the importance of women's health promotion.
- Identify what conception is
- Identify the process of development of the foetus from conception to implantation
- Define the difference between ectoderm, mesoderm ad endoderm.
- Identify the embryonic period
- Gain an awareness of the function of the placenta.
- Define the gestation period.
- Define the three pregnancy trimesters.
- Be able to identify the clinical manifestations of pregnancy.
- Gain knowledge of the tests a pregnant woman may be required to undertake
- Reinforcement of the importance of the placenta barrier and how if the mother is exposed to tetragons it can be passed to the unborn child
- Be aware of the dangers of smoking and pregnancy.
- Overview of the complications that can occur during pregnancy
- Define what monozygotic is
- Define what dizygotic is
- Discuss the four ways pregnancy terminations can occur
- Identify the causes for birth defects
- Be able to discuss the three stages of birthing
- Identify the non pharmalogical interventions that can assist in labour and delivery.
- Define what nitrous oxide and narcotic analgesia are and used for.
- Identify what an epidural is and how it works.
- Gain awareness of the third stage of labour.
- Define involution and lochia.
- Gain awareness of post partum haemorrhage and the drugs used to stop this from occurring
- Identify the delivery interventions used from an induction, forceps to c sections.
- Gain knowledge around AGPAR assessments.

Address social and cultural requirements whilst performing a physical examination.
