Android vs. iOS
Both Android and iOS are operating systems developed for a primary purpose to be used for mobile devices. While Android is developed by Google, iOS is developed by Apple. Android has been widely used by different mobile device manufacturers and it is the most popular while iOS is only used by Apple.
These are some of the similarities and differences between the two: Android is open source while iOS is closed but has some open source components. Android is highly customizable , is available on many manufacturers like LG, Samsung, Sony etc., fitted with widgets, it is available in thirty two languages, has the biggest market share of up to 81.5% of smartphones in the world, apps are available in the Google App store. Android apps can also be found on other stores like Amazon and Getjar. The ease of use depends on the user and the model. The latest release of the Android is OS is Android 5.0.1 (lollipop) released on November 2014.
iOS on the other side is closed, customization has been limited, only available on Apple manufacturers only for smartphones and tablets including iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV second generation and later, has no widgets unless on the notification center, supports up to 43 languages, controls a smaller market share of 14.8% of smartphones in the world, applications for iOS are available on Apple app store and there exists more than one million application, among other differences. iOS latest release is iOS 8.1 released on March 10, 2015.
