Beryllium copper alloy: It is obtained by alloying copper and beryllium. These alloys containing beryllium up to 2.75% can be produced in the form of sheet, rod, wire and tube. Beryllium copper parts have to be treated after they are formed in an annealed state and it is done by ageing the fabricated part 2 or 3 hours at 315 degree centigrade or higher depending upon its alloy composition. Its hardening and elasticity property can be changed by giving appropriate heat treatment.
Properties:
1. This alloy has high endurance limit and corrosion resistance.
2. It has high electrical conductivity.
3. It can be hardened by heat treatment to give high wear resistance.
Uses: It is used for making current carrying springs, brush holders, bellows, coil springs, sliding contacts and knife switch blades.
