Battle of bull run

Battle of Bull Run:

The purpose of the project is to answer a key question in American history, literature, art or music about a person, event, movement, or other historical phenomenon.

Topics and theses must be analytical and must be approved. Topics are assigned/approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Scope: 6-8 pages in length. A bibliography, cover page and citations page should also be included although those pages do not could towards the page totals.

Sources: A variety of sources must be used to fulfill the goals associated with the project. Papers should include at least one of all the following types of sources unless prior permission is acquired: periodical (historical magazine/journal), newspaper, book, and Internet source. This is not a book report. A minimum of 6 sources is required. Multiple website pages under the same domain do not count as separate sources. If a website that is restricted or that requires a fee is used, then the student should print out the page in question so that the teacher can check the source.  If you plagiarize you will receive an automatic 0.

Citations (noting author and page) may be made in parentheses in the text of the paper. The bibliography/works cited page should include title, author, publisher, date, and web address if applicable; this is a history course and we use APA style for citations. https://www.citationmachine.net is a great source to assist you in correctly citing sources for your paper and your bibliography. Encyclopedias are good sources for general information on the topics, but they should not be counted/used towards the required number of citations. Likewise, Wikipedia, Ask, and other websites such as that are not acceptable as citations nor should they be in your bibliography. Each paragraph of the paper that includes new information or interpretations other than the student’s own ideas must include a citation.

Paraphrasing should be done with care; changing a few words in a sentence is not sufficient to avoid plagiarism. Improper documentation or plagiarism will result in a failing grade.

Final papers must be printed out and delivered to me before the final exam begins.

You may turn in papers before week 6 to have them critiqued and returned to you but since the paper is due week 8 I cannot do any critiques and return them to after the 6th class meeting. No grade will be given for these drafts I will just provide constructive criticism.

Please insure that you have properly cited your quotations and paraphrasing because a failure to do so will result in plagiarism which will result in a grade of 0 for the paper and the course.

All papers must be typed no handwritten papers will be accepted.
