Basic Considerations Governing Selection of Road Alignment:
The following considerations shall be kept in view in selecting the road alignment:
Roads in Plain Areas
(a) The route should be as direct as possible.
(b) The alignment should involve least acquisition of agricultural land and property.
(c) Impact on environment (fauna, flora and drainage) should be minimal.
(d) Obstructions such as places of worship, cemetry, and burning ghat, archeological and historical monuments should be avoided.
(e) Frequent crossing of railway lines should be avoided.
(f) Avoid marshy and low-lying land.
(g) Avoid flood-prone areas.
(h) When major rivers have to be crossed, the bridge site should first be selected and the approaches suitably aligned.
