Project Planning and Project Management

Write a 2,000 word project report addressing the following task:

You have just been appointed as the chairman of the University Student Union and your first task is to organise an Open Day event for prospective students in summer 2016 (ideally at the end of July or early August). The main purpose of this event is to show the future students your own experience of studying with the university and perhaps let them also have a taste about it. This is an entry free event but all attendees must be pre-registered. You have been given a total £5,000 budget from the University to organise this event. Furthermore, since you are a business school student, you might also want to add some ‘business flavour' into this event to make it different from the previous Open Day events (note that the previous organiser does NOT have a business degree).

In your project report, you are required to provide details of the following tasks:

1. State the objectives, scope and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS, to include at least 10 activities) for the project.

2. Based on the work breakdown structure (WBS) above, create a network diagram and indicate the critical path by using MS Project software.

3. Detail the team structure and responsibilities that you deem appropriate for this project.

4. Explain how you would evaluate this project in terms of key success factors.

Marks will be awarded for professionalism, detail of approaches to the tasks that you have selected and the inclusion of the criteria in sections 1-4 above. To gain higher marks, you must justify your choices in 1-4. The objective of this coursework is to give you practical experience in developing and planning a project by applying the models, paradigms and learning outcomes of this course.
