Respect many of the conventions and expectations that are placed on women have not drastically changed. In other words, women are still confined to specific gender roles that dictate how they are to behave in both the private and public forum, how they are to behave in regard to sexuality and overt sexual behavior, and what goals they should aspire to as opposed to their male counterparts.
I'd like you to focus on two of the main characters in Set it Off (Cleo, Frankie, Stony, and T.T.), and describe their personalities as to how they are different and the same in relation to their responses toward societal norms designated for women. In addition, compare and contrast these two women to the story of Charlotte Perkins Gilman in "The Yellow Wallpaper" (pg. 304), and also write about the psychological effect that these very different societies have on them, and how they react to these impositions. Furthermore, incorporate the article entitled "Gender and Pathology in "The Yellow Wallpaper'" (pg. 318) to fortify your argument.
This paper will include a title, and must be double-spaced throughout using a 12 point font.
Avoid making "I" statements that are full of bluster and bravado, and do not summarize scenes from the film and/or the literature. Instead, I expect to see thoughtful, in-depth analysis in your writing.
