Assignment task:
Respond to classmate discussion post: An audiologist is a specific career for those with hearing loss. An audiologist may work in a hospital setting, school or private practice. Although audiologists may have a singular target area for patients, this does not mean the job itself is single-targeted. To achieve patient goals, "a close working relationship of audiologists with professionals in speech-language pathology or in the education of those with hearing loss often develops" (Martin & Clark, 2018). Speech pathologists can be an aid for patients with hearing loss. A patient with hearing loss may see a speech pathologist while working closely with an audiologist. One example that comes to mind is those patients with cochlear implants. This patient can be seen working closely with their audiologist to gain a sense of hearing. Speech pathologists can assist those who have hearing impairments by giving strategies for improving communication like lip reading, sign language, and speechreading. An audiologist and speech-language pathologist must work closely. Understanding the needs of the patient and reflecting on what treatment is needed is crucial for each profession. The audiologist must be able to rely on the SLP for correct treatment in aid to what the audiologist is?
