Election Returns
What is it we all seek for in an election?
To answer its real purposes, you must first possess the means of knowing the fitness of your man, and then you must retain some hold upon him by personal obligation or dependence.
-Edmund Burke
At the end of an election, when the votes are tallied, one candidate emerges a winner. What made the candidate so successful?
Was it his or her leadership style, view on social issues, or ability to deliver messages effectively?
As you complete your virtual community experience, reflect upon the election and how the winning candidate and his or her policies may potentially affect the community.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review the article, "Public Administration and 'the Lives of Others': Toward an Ethics of Collaboration." Consider how to impact others through leadership and public policy.
Review the article, "John Locke and Public Administration." Think about the role of public officials and how to be a successful leader.
Review the live news coverage of election results in the virtual community. Think about what made the winning candidate's campaign successful as well as any unsuccessful elements of his or her campaign.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post a 500-word brief explanation of two ways in which the virtual community may be affected by the election results and how.
Then explain at least one policy of the winning candidate you think will have a positive outcome on the community.
Finally, describe any insights or conclusions you drew based upon the election results. Be specific and use examples to illustrate your points.
