CFD Assignment
Assessment of the Computational Fluid Dynamics module is 100% based on the assignment. 80% based on a written report (max 2000 words and as much images as you like) and 20% based on an oral presentation of the work.
Below there are eight assignment choices in various topics of CFD. Each student should choose one of the topics and communicate with the tutor during the course about each assignment details.
1- Incompressible turbulent flow
Caste study: turbulent model validation and air foil lift and drag optimisation
2- Convective heat transfer
Case study: comparison of in-line and staggered tube bundle in cross flow
3- Compressible flow
Case study: investigation of shock waves in a convergent-divergent nozzle
4- 3D complex flow modelling (example Electronic cooling)
Case study: cooling design of an pre-defined electronic board with heat sources
5- Transient (time dependent) flow
Case study: time dependent study of air recirculation in a specific room
6- Moving boundary flow
Case study: flow modelling of rotating blade, comparison of two different methods
7- Multiphase flow
Case study: modelling of fuel and air mixture (atomisation) inside a piston
8- Flow with Discrete Phase Modelling
Case study: investigating erosion rate in a valve due to the sand particles in flow
9- Combustion Modelling
Case study: modelling a particular combustion and chemical reaction
