Assignment Task 13:

Using what you have read this week, reflect on and answer the following questions in 150 words.  You will use the provided links in Week 1 and your research from the institution databases (no Google, Bing, etc searches) to define leadership.  You will include this research at the bottom of your initial post, in MLA format, to avoid plagiarism.

This week, you learned about inferences and how it impacts your leadership style.  You also continued to explore Authentic Servant Leadership.

This week, you will read and consider a real-life situation.  You are to discuss the scenario based on the leadership theories/styles/characteristics, including Authentic Servant Leadership, Critical Thinking, and Metacognition.

Scenario:

Lilly was so nervous about going back to college. She had dreamed about becoming a nurse since she was in high school. She dropped out after her first term of college, to start her family. Also, she never liked school much because she was bullied in high school. However, ten years later, she decided to go to GMC to pursue her degree in pre-nursing. Due to her age, she is worried that the other students will be younger and make fun of her for being old.

Her first day of school was hectic because she had to take care of her two children (who refused to get up) and drop them off at their school.  Lilly's morning was so chaotic that she forgot to brush her hair and accidentally spilled coffee on her shirt and pants while driving. As soon as Lilly started to walk down the hall, she saw a group of young college students standing around, laughing, and pointing at her clothes.  Obviously, they reached an incorrect inference. Lilly knew they were making fun of her. Flashes of high school came back into her mind, and she didn't want to go to class.  As a grown-up, she knew she had to ignore them, but she didn't like it when they followed her into the class.  So, to make her day worse, it turns out the students who laughed at her were her classmates.  Lilly felt alone and ashamed. She wanted to go home and quit school before she even started.

How would you feel if you were in Lilly's shoes? What is a plan of action that would prevent similar situations in the future? How did the teens (who laughed at Lilly) actions' affect the overall class environment? How might the teens have shown empathy and civility toward Lilly instead of making fun of her? Please respond to the above situation and share how Lilly's day could have changed if someone would have been a good student leader to her. Have you ever encountered a similar situation where you felt ashamed?  How did you handle the situation or how do you wish the situation would have been handled?
