As an employee I think the main advantage of having an HR portal as the main vehicle for communicating with HR would be the ease in which it could be done. Most jobs you have to actually go to the HR department but, with this process if you recognize an error or need assistance from HR you can do it from a computer which save the employee a trip to the HR department. It also allows you to track your daily work performance so you know what areas you are weak in so you can improve.
