This review is for the article titled Management Commitment to Safety & Risk of Workplace Injury: A Workers' Compensation Insurance Perspective. The article is written by Katherine, E. This article details what the management can do to enhance prevention of injuries. This has been done through laying focus on the organizational factors.
From the article, it is possible to learn various aspects that are in line with the safety and health as well as OSHA in the field of mechanical engineering. It is common knowledge that as a mechanical engineer, one is in contact with machines that pose great health hazards to the individual. It is also clear from the article that there is a close relationship between the commitment of the management to prevention of injuries and to the safety of the employees. This role is equally important to the insurance industry where evaluation of the management has been embraced. From the article I learn that the management is important to ensure employees operate in a safe environment. They need to realize the underlying importance of implementing OSHA guidelines on safety at workplace to safeguard the working environment of their workers. Research shows that the more aware the management is on the safety issues in the organization, the less incidences there are on employees' injuries. In Mechanical Engineering, the employees as well as the management are responsible for the safety of the employees. It is therefore important for workers to be kept informed and up to date with OSHA guidelines for their safety and well being. An organization that ensures the safety of its workers remains productive as well as avoids litigations from workers injured in the course of their duties.
The article's topic would affect my future job as a mechanical engineer because it informs a lot about the role the management plays in reducing the risk facing employees in their working environment. It further informs on the different roles played by the occupational safety and health professionals in ensuring the safety of employees. As a mechanical engineer and generally in the engineering field, the safety of workers plays an important role in their productivity. An organization should always embark on preventing injuries on the workers.
