Art criticism involves a specific way of looking at a work of art that deconstructs, identifies and interprets the individual elements of its construction.
Learning how to criticize artwork properly will allow you to better understand how the various elements of the image/ animation work in unison to achieve the final effect. Through this process of research and investigation you can learn ways of improving your own art practice.
You will also become more skilled in using the specialised language and terms required to communicate creative ideas and concepts to others.
The process of art criticism generally involves four actions: Describe, Analyse, Interpret and Decide. Note that the written analysis required of your Research Journal assignment need not cover all the criteria outlined below. Your writing should concentrate on the aspects of analysis that are pertinent to your reaction to the artwork.
