Question: Interviewing interviewees
Arrange to talk to some friends or colleagues who have recently been interviewed for jobs. Ask them to describe the overall process and to identify any features or aspects of the experience that they particularly liked or disliked. Ideally you should talk to at least one person who was offered the job and to one who was not. As background work for this exercise, compile a checklist of the key features of ‘good practice' interviews that should help inform the way you ask questions. A useful reference here is Rebecca Corfield's (2009) Successful Interview Skills. As well as practising your interviewing skills you should compare the experience of the interviewees with best practice techniques.
