Problem: Are we going in the right direction as a nation? I would say that It's a mixed bag. On one hand, we've got pretty good coverage with 81% of health service areas having at least one HIO that it shows in the health affairs article and that's not bad! Plus, most HIOs have been around for 6-10 years, which shows some stability. But the fact that the number of HIOs has decreased since 2012 is a bit concerning. It's like we took two steps forward and one step back. What has to happen to increase usage? First off, we need to get those six states without coverage on board. like, Idaho and Illinois! Secondly, we should focus on making HIOs more financially viable. Only 24% of them are covering their costs? That's rough. We also need to boost that active user percentage. 73% is decent, but we can do better. Maybe some user-friendly interfaces or training programs could help?
