Assignment:
Each student will identify and analyzes a piece of legislation (social problem related) passed in 2019 through the congress or state legislature. Ideally, students will analyze legislation that is supported by NASW, CSWE or NASWLA.They will start by reviewing process the bill went through to become law.
Paper Assignment- (Paper should be between 4 to 5 pages and in APA format.)
The paper should include the following discussion points:
1. The author (s) / sponsors of the bill and some information about their political ideology and philosophical perspectives approach 111 What was the intent of the author / sponsor of the bill?
2. What is the new law passed and is it different than the original bill?
3. Amendments to the bill after it was introduced
4. A statement of any previous related laws and the problem that was not addressed by that law which led to this proposed legislation, and how the new law changes the prior law to solve the problem, as applicable.
5. The political climate around the issue
6. Governmental and Nongovernmental organizations and entities supporting the bill
7. Entities or organizations opposing the bill
8. Does the law have a fiscal impact-(does it cost or save money or is neutral)
9. The population that will be most impacted by the passage of the law
10. According to the arguments, will the impact be positive or negative, and reason
11. Identify flaws you found with the law, and if none, what positives do you see
12. Make recommendations as to how the law can be improved for the. common good
13. Is the law related to social justice, and explain?
Aditionally, paper will be graded based on grammar, punctuation, clarity and syntax and APP format. An abstract is not needed.
