For this assignment, you will analyze the recent New York decision on stop and frisk policy. The court case from 2013 has been provided (Floyd v City of New York). There are also related court cases that you must locate using the citations provided in Floyd v New York, so pay careful attention to the instructions below and the steps involved in the assignment. You must cite all material used in your paper in proper APA format. Failure to do so will result in a significant loss of points.
1. First, using the case citation and the information provided in assignment 1 on court citation, if necessary, locate the following two cases mentioned in Floyd: Monell and Terry.
2. After reading all three cases and researching stop and frisk policy, you should compose your paper, answering the following questions:
a. What is the stop and frisk policy?
b. Why was it put into place?
c. Why was it contested?
d. What the relationship between Monell, Terry, and Floyd? In other words, why were these cases used as precedent?
e. What are the pros and cons of stop and frisk policy?
f. How does this policy relate to the strategic plan of New York that you have read previously?
g. There are two opinions with supporting evidence on the effectiveness of stop and frisk policy. What are these arguments?
h. Do you agree with stop and frisk policy? Why or why not?
i. Given the case outcome, what policy changes would you make, if you had the chance?
