Problem: The first of the two films we will analyze is The Philadelphia Story. It is a comedy about an heiress who has to choose between three men for marriage.
Think about the following statements and respond with your thoughts:
1) Often when we think of a film that is known for its editing, we think of a film with very fast cuts and lots of visual effects. The Philadelphia Story is a good example of a film that is complicated, doesn't involve a lot of fast cuts, but the editor (Oscar-nominated Frank Sullivan) did a fantastic job of tying all the story threads together. What did you think about the first 30 minutes of the film and how all the main characters were introduced? Was this opening clear to you?
2) If you were the editor on this film, what would you have changed, if anything?
