Adventures of Huckleberry Finn -- My Jim
2 novels: "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," written by Mark Twain.
"My Jim," written by Nancy Rawles.
Although some examples and short quotes from the texts will be useful (please cite page numbers), most of each answer needs to be your own ideas and analysis.
1. Analyze how the theme of ownership is applied in each novel.
2. Compare and contrast how the protagonists in each novel tell the stories.
3. Analyze how the theme of family and/or community plays a role in each novel.
4. Explain how the power of language is used to influence and control people, as Sadie says, "They beat us with the word just as sure as they beat us with the whip" (Rawles 36).
5. Choose one metaphor or symbol from each book and discuss what it means.
