Assignment: Excessively Disruptive Behavior
Case Study One
A long-term union employee in a hospital has developed a pattern of excessively disruptive behavior. He refuses to help when problems occur. Routinely, he yells at other employees and often personally insults them. As a result, many employees do not want to work with this individual, and they decline overtime in order to avoid him. The other employees consider the individual to be a bully but are hesitant to speak up for fear of him retaliating. The nurse manager is very frustrated with the negative effect this employee has on the department and wants management to transfer him to a different department or terminate him immediately. Union representatives also recognize the negative effect this person has on the whole facility. The union approaches management and asks them to address the situation. Given the background and the complaints about the employee, the HR manager schedules a meeting with the employee.
Compose a response to the scenario that details what action should be taken in this scenario. In your response be sure to address the following:
i. Evaluate how labor unions improve working conditions in health care.
ii. Discuss how the grievance process and grievance management affects this case.
In your response to the scenario, be sure to include academic sources to support your positions/conclusions. You are required to use the textbook and at least two additional outside sources. Be sure that your analysis is highly relevant, thorough, and on topic. Accuracy should be strong, with close attention to detail in all parts of the assignment. Writing should be clear and concise with solid sentence structure and should be free of grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.
All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations in APA style.
Case Study Two
An HR director's compensation team is trying to integrate a centralized total rewards model across multiple medical offices. Employees are having trouble understanding what the changes in total rewards mean to them, and the eastern office location does not want to be a part of the centralized model because they believe that changes to compensation and benefits will drive employees away. The organization is also dealing with other medical organizations trying to poach their best employees by offering them higher salaries and more perks, so they cannot afford any additional turnover.
i. Determine the role compensation philosophies within a healthcare setting play in this scenario.
ii. Analyze the components of compensation in a healthcare environment.
