Assignment 1
Each response to the exercise must be between 250--300 words in length
Exercise 1: Australian Indigenous Culture
Pick a topic related to one aspect of Indigenous Australian culture. Research this topic, meaning more than one resource, and write about what you find.
Exercise 2: Australian Sports
Pick a famous Australian sporting figure. Research this figure, and explain why they are famous. Mention what sport they play and any significant milestones they have achieved.
Exercise 3: Australian Icons
Pick a famous Australian icon, for instance Vegemite. Why is it an icon? Where did it originate? Why is it Famous?
Exercise 4: Workplace Culture
If you are from another country, list the similarities and difference of Workplace Culture in Australia to your home country. If you are Australian, use another country you know for comparison.
Exercise 5: Australian Politics:
Identify and write a about a political incident that was reported in the news this week. In your answer name the political party involved and provide a short summary of the values they stand for and are against.
Exercise 6: Australian Society
If modern Australia had a character/personality representing its nation what would it be and why?
Assignment 2
Question 1:
An simply supported concrete beam without reinforcement 300mm width x 450mm height x 10m length. It is loaded a point load in the midpoint of the beam.
The material properties:
Concrete material property is 32 MPa
1. Please analyse the maximum load and deflection for the concrete beam.
2. Please compare the result with simple beam theory.
In your progress report, you are expected include below sections:
1. Introduction
2. Methodology
3. Result and Discussion
4. Conclusions
Assignment 2
REPORT
Below diagram is a typical push out test for composite steel and concrete beams. They consist of concrete connected to two steel beams by headed stud shear connectors. The two steel beams slabs are fixed at the bottom. A uniformly distributed load was loaded to the surface of the concrete slab.

For civil student: Please vary the material properties of concrete from 32MPa, 40MPa, 50MPa and 60MPa. Plot the design graph of load versus concrete properties and slip versus concrete properties. Please explain the results.
For Fire student: Please vary the temperatures from ambient temperatures, 200oC, 400oC, 800oC and 1000oC. Plot the design graph of load versus temperatures and slip versus temperatures. Please explain the results.
