Education in a Cosmopolitian society
Examine the Being Australian curriculum document and analyse the expectations of students and teachers. As you examine it ask yourself:
• What would you do with this document?
• How is ‘culture’ constructed in the document?
• What is the teacher encouraged to do?
• What kinds of messages are students meant to learn?
Then respond to these two questions using evidence from the first 4 concepts’ articles, film clips, mini-lectures to justify your argument.
Does this document encourage a ‘cosmopolitan learning’ like Rizvi has described? If so, how? If not, why not?
What kind of classroom practices do you think would encourage cosmopolitan learning?
