Analgesics - Narcotics and Non-narcotics
Analgesics: Drugs which are relieved or decrease pain are known as analgesics. These are of two types,
(i) Narcotics: These are majorly opium and its products such as morphine, codeine and heroin. These generate analgesia and sleep and in high doses cause unconsciousness. They are extremely potent drugs and their chronic make use of leads to addiction.
(ii) Non-narcotics: These are the drugs that are not potent and do not cause addiction. General drugs are aspirin and analgin. These drugs as well have antipyretic properties.
